Many people are unfamiliar with the nomination process, but the process of deciding who gets on the ballot is a critical instrument of democracy. In some parties, candidates are merely appointed by the leader but with the United Conservative Party, nominations are held in an open, transparent and democratic fashion.

In the UCP, party members, who live in the area vote and decide who they will put on the ballot.
